The sorceress of Colchis

Medea, daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis and granddaughter of the sun god Helios, was one of the most powerful sorceresses of the ancient world. It was her magic that allowed Jason and the Argonauts to win the Golden Fleece. Medea gave up her homeland and family for Jason, and when he left her for a Corinthian princess, her revenge became one of the darkest tales in mythology – immortalised in Euripides' tragedy.

The coin weaves passion, betrayal and divine retribution into a single work of art: Medea, eyes closed and crowned with a golden helm, embraces two children, while a golden warrior's helmet with a red crest rests below.

The grand finale of the series

"Medea's Legacy" is the fourth and final coin of the Lithuanian Mint series dedicated to Greek mythology and ancient legends. It closes this four-part saga – the coin collectors completing the set have been waiting for.

Coin design

The crown of Medea's golden helm is set with a genuine natural 0.01 ct ruby (VS–SI clarity, approx. 1.2 mm), casting a crimson accent over her enigmatic face. The reverse is struck in high relief with an antique finish, while selective gilding and UV printing in blue, gold and red bring out her flowing hair, the stars and the moon. The obverse shows King Charles III, the inscription NIUE and the face value 5 DOLLARS 2026.

The coin comes in a wooden box with a certificate of authenticity.
