Are these real Viking coins?

No. They're modern collector coins, legal tender of Niue, Cameroon and Samoa, struck in .999 silver with a stated mintage. Real Viking coins from the 9th to 11th centuries are archaeological finds sold by specialist dealers.

Did the Vikings have their own coins?

Yes, from the 9th century. Hedeby in Denmark struck silver pennies around 870 to 900, and Viking kings at York, including Eric Bloodaxe, struck pennies in England. Before that, Vikings paid with hacksilver by weight.

What is the difference between a Viking coin and a Viking medal?

A coin has a face value from an issuing country; a medal doesn't. Our Phoenix Valkyrie pieces are .999 silver medals with a mintage and a certificate, but no face value.

Do you have Viking gold coins?

Not at the moment. Our Viking coins are silver, some of them gold plated, like the ship-shaped Sail with the Vikings series.

Are these Viking replica coins?

No. A replica copies a historical coin, like a Hedeby or York penny. Ours are new designs from Power Coin, MINT XXI and other mints, each with its own face value, mintage and certificate.

Viking Coins and Runes

Viking coins in this category are modern silver coins that put the warriors and kings of the Norse sagas into .999 silver: Ragnar Lothbrok, Lagertha, Eric Bloodaxe, Harald Hardrada. Some are shaped like a longship, some carry 2 oz of high relief, and the lowest mintage is 99 pieces per design. Most come from Power Coin and MINT XXI, two mints we're an authorized distributor for. The alphabet on many of them is explained in our guide to Norse runes. We ship worldwide, including the US, tracked.
