Q: Are Samoa coins real money?

Yes, they are legal tender in Samoa, with a face value in tala or dollars. In practice nobody pays with them – they are collector coins, and their value comes from the metal, the mintage and the design.

Samoa coins carry a face value in the local currency – the tala – and are among the most interesting issues of recent years. Samoa issues the famous weapon-shaped coins by Spectres: the Ascalon sword, General Patton's pistol and Theodore Roosevelt's knives, made of pure silver in full 3D.

You will also find MINT XXI series such as Amber Mirage and Legends of the Battlefield, and coins with unusual forms, e.g. a 3D Guardian Angel sculpture. See also our Spectres category.
